2012-07-21_20-30-39_369So, as I move back into the freelance world from the payroll world, I’m remembering some of the good things about it. The variety of the work–the ability to focus on my own projects a little more often–the creative muscles I get to flex.

All very exciting and satisfying stuff!

So here’s what I’m up to this week.

Patch–My role is once again changing over at Patch. Now, I’ll be focusing on the same seven sites, but I’ll be doing something even more specialized, and something that is crazy-fun. I’ll be connecting on social media venues with readers from each local site and then producing content based on their reactions and replies to my questions and conversation starters. Not only does this give me a measurable goal (14 pieces of content each week), but it also involves a practice I practically invented here locally and one that has been pretty successful thus far. And, I’m not going to lie, the super-fun part does not hurt my feelings one bit! I’m really grateful to be getting paid to do what I love. 🙂

The WM Freelance Writers Connection–Now that we’ve managed to get Google to love us again (no thanks to the hackers), we’re primed for our relaunch. This week, I’ve been working on revamping the site and preparing some new products and offerings for our readers. Plus, I’ve done some housekeeping in our very popular LinkedIn group, as well as a few other preparations. We plan to reach out to our bloggers next week and hope to officially relaunch the following week, tentatively. Stay tuned!

Wakening Media–My partner Alyssa and I have been discussing our next moves for Wakening Media. We are moving toward taking the company to the next level and are in fact down to legal brass tacks at this point, making decisions on how to proceed with the official structure of the organization. More on that to come.

Project Blissful–Project Blissful is coming along very well. I feel that this particular work is one that has a bright future, and there’s a new concept forming around it. Stay tuned on this one, and if you haven’t already, check it out right here.

Gossipfest–This is a project I’ve been working on in the background, one that I’ve been developing but not promoting much yet. The full concept of the site has not yet been introduced and there are still many points of development to consider–but while it’s a concept-site now, it has the potential to become so much more. I’m excited about this one, but I can’t say it’ll be ready for public consumption anytime before summer.

Practical Freelance Writer’s Guide–This site was originally created to promote my book, The Practical Freelance Writer’s Guide to Author Websites, but I am in the process of repurposing it to allow for a much broader focus. Now, rather than focusing primarily on the author website, the site will also have strong sections on social media and other ways to promote yourself as a writer. So, the focus of the site will be, in a nutshell, how to build, manage and promote your freelance career–and it’ll include but not be limited to the author website. Again, this one’s still in development but I’m really excited about the potential of it.

Stay tuned for updates on all of the above and on my future projects. Very exciting stuff afoot!
